Spiders Sweep No. 4 George Mason, Advance to A-10 Semifinals

ORLANDO, Fla. – The University of Richmond men's tennis team opened Atlantic 10 Championship play with a dominant 4-0 victory over No. 4 seed George Mason Thursday at the USTA National Campus. With the win, the No. 5 seeded Spiders improve to 15-8 on the spring season and advance to the semifinal round for the fourth-straight season.
How It Happened
Richmond secured the doubles point with wins on courts one and three. The top pairing of Davis Wiley and Cole Brashear set the tone with a 6-3 victory, while Grant Cohen and Charlie Burdell followed with a 6-4 win to clinch the early advantage. George Mason picked up a 6-4 win on court two, but the Spiders carried the point into singles play.
Richmond wasted no time extending its lead, earning three straight-set victories to close out the match. Cole Brashear was first off the court with a dominant 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 6, giving the Spiders a 2-0 lead. Dylan Atkinson followed on court four with a 6-4, 6-4 victory, pushing the margin to 3-0.
Shortly after, Otto Sewell delivered the match-clinching point at No. 5, securing a 6-3, 6-3 win to seal the sweep. Matches on the top three courts went unfinished with Richmond holding leads in two of the three contests.
