ORLANDO, Fla. – The University of Richmond women's tennis team saw its season end Friday night with a 4-2 setback to No. 2 seed VCU in the Atlantic 10 Championship semifinals at the USTA National Campus. The No. 3 seeded Spiders finish the 2026 season at 11-11 overall, 3-1 in conference play and 5-2 at home while advancing to the semifinal round for the fourth consecutive year.

How It Happened
VCU secured the doubles point with wins on courts two and one, both by 6-4 margins, to take an early 1-0 lead. Beatriz Guerra and Abby Lee provided Richmond's lone doubles win with a 6-4 victory on court three.

The Spiders answered in singles with two straight-set wins to take a 2-1 advantage. Lainey O'Neil evened the match at 1-1 with a 6-4, 6-2 win on court six, before Lucy Webber followed with a 6-4, 6-4 victory on court five to give Richmond the lead.

VCU responded with three consecutive wins to clinch the match. Sofia Jane Thorne tied the score on court one with a 1-6, 6-1, 6-4 comeback over Sofia Barbulescu. Tania Isabel Andrade Sabando pushed the Rams in front with a 2-6, 7-6 (4), 6-3 win on court two, and Mariam Ibrahim sealed the result with a 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 victory on court three.

Play was halted on court four with Abby Lee trailing 7-6 (4), 3-6, 5-2 when the match was decided.
