Richmond Football Postgame Notes
The Richmond win...
-- Makes the team 6-5 to end the season for the first time since 1997.
-- Gives the Spiders two-straight winning seasons for the first time since 1997-98 and the second since 1984-85.
-- Marks the first time the Spiders have combined for 15 wins in back-to-back seasons since 1997-98.
-- Gives Richmond its first consecutive wins in the all-time series against William & Mary since the 1973 season. The Spiders won three-straight from 1971-73.
-- Makes the Spiders 3-2 on the road this season and 9-8 all-time on the road under Clawson.
-- Gives Clawson his second-straight win over William & Mary.
-- Makes Clawson 2-1 in his head coaching career against the Tribe.
-- Moves Clawson to 47-46 as a head coach and 108-92-1 in his coaching career.
-- Marks the Spiders' second-straight and fifth in the last nine against William & Mary.
-- Cuts the Tribes' lead in the all-time series to 59-52-5 and makes William & Mary's mark 19-16-1 in games played in Williamsburg.
-- Gives Richmond an all-time record of 455-594-53.
Postgame Notes
-- Senior Ryan Beers' blocked field goal with 9:00 left in the first quarter marked the first of his career.
-- Junior Tim Hightower's 24-yard halfback pass to Arman Shields with 1:16 left in the first quarter was the first of his career. The play resulted in a touchdown, the first career passing TD for Hightower and Shields' 13th career receiving touchdown.
-- Shields' receiving touchdown with 1:16 left in the first placed him a tie for eighth all-time on the Richmond career touchdown reception list with 13 (Mike Mahoney, 1972-74).
-- Junior Andrew Harris' interception with 5:50 remaining in the second quarter marked his third-straight game with an interception (at Villanova, Towson).
-- Senior Danny Desriveaux's touchdown catch with 3:13 left in the second quarter marked his first touchdown catch of the season. The touchdown pass also marked Ward's first TD pass since throwing for one against James Madison, Oct. 28.
-- Richmond's 228 total yards in the first half was seven more than its entire total last week against Towson (221).
-- Freshman Andrew Howard's 36 yard punt with 10:09 left in the third quarter was downed at the William & Mary one-yardline marking the first he has landed inside the opponent 10-yardline this season, and only the third time a Spider punter has landed one inside the 10 yardline this season.
-- Sophomore John Crone saw his first action since leaving the Delaware contest, Oct. 21, with a leg injury. Crone finished the game with three catches for 25 yards.
-- Junior Stephen Howell's interception with 7:06 left in the third quarter marked his third of the season and was the seventh of his career. The pick also marked his first since intercepting two against James Madison, Oct. 28.
-- Sophomore Josh Vaughan's 108 yards mark the second time he has gone over the 100-yard mark rushing this season, and the first since rushing for 110 yards against Delaware, Oct. 21.
-- Sophomore Joe Stewarts' touchdown catch with 10:31 left in the fourth quarter marked his second TD-catch of the season. The pass, from Ward, was the second TD-pass of the game for him. It also marked his third two-touchdown passing game of the season, and the first since throwing for two at Rhode Island, Oct. 14.
