Richmond Athletics Launches CapitalCup125.com

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - It’s the Oldest Rivalry in the South and the fourth oldest in the nation, and this year, when Richmond and William & Mary kick off at noon Nov. 21 at Robins Stadium, it will be the schools’ 125th meeting.
Richmond Athletics is celebrating this historic milestone with special activities and a unique website devoted to the game. Fans are encouraged to visit capitalcup125.com to relive the rivalry through photos, recaps, record books, videos and audio. Current and former players and coaches will take their own walk down memory lane with remembrances of the rivalry.
“One of the highlights of the 2015 football season will be hosting William & Mary on November 21, which will be the 125th game of this storied rivalry,” Richmond Director of Athletics Keith Gill remarked. “We are excited to take a look back this season at the fourth-oldest football rivalry in the nation and celebrate the greatest games and all of the student-athletes and coaches who have participated from both of these world class institutions. We hope all of our fans will take part in the activities surrounding the game and visit our microsite devoted to the 125th anniversary of the “Oldest Rivalry in the South”, capitalcup125.com, to vote for their favorite all-time game and share their favorite memories.”
Along with the website, the athletic department also unveiled a logo for the 125th meeting of the rivalry. The logo will painted on the field during the game at Robins Stadium this year.
“It will be an honor and a privilege to lead our football program into a game of such historical significance,” Richmond head coach Danny Rocco remarked. “We will be looking forward to an exciting afternoon of football against an outstanding opponent.”
There are also several exciting ways for fans to be a part of the rivalry. Help select the top contests in the rivalry’s history by voting for your favorite Richmond-William & Mary game. Visit capitalcup125.com to vote for your favorite game.
During the William & Mary game, the favorite games in the long-standing rivalry will be unveiled. Also, season ticket holders will receive a replica of the Capital Cup Trophy that the winning team takes back to campus each year following the game.
Fans will have the opportunity to submit their favorite Richmond vs. William & Mary game pictures and memories. Fans who have been to the rivalry for many years are urged to send a picture of your tickets from the games you attended. All photos, as well as written memories, can be emailed to capitalcup125@richmond.edu or by using the hashtag #125FanPhotos.

William & Mary leads the all-time series 61-58, with five ties. Richmond has won the past three meetings and eight of the past ten. The Spiders won the first game ever played between the teams, 15-0, in Richmond, Nov. 19, 1898.
