Johnson Richardson is in his first year as an assistant coach at the University of Richmond for head coach Russ Huesman and will work with the Spiders' tight ends. Richardson joins the Spiders after spending the past seven years on the staff at Charlotte.

He spent six years, including the past two, coaching the 49ers’ tight ends. He mentored All-Conference USA selection Chris Phillips during his time at tight ends. He spent one season (2016) as the offensive line coach, guiding Nate Davis to an All-Conference USA selection. He began his career at Charlotte as an offensive intern from 2012-13, working primarily with the tight ends.

Richardson began his coaching career as an offensive graduate assistant at Wingate. He worked with the offensive line and tight ends during his time with the Bulldogs while also handing Director of Football Operations duties. Richardson was a four-year letterwinner at Wofford (2006-09), helping the Terriers win the Southern Conference championship in 2007. Wofford appeared in a pair of FCS playoffs during his time, including a quarterfinal appearance in 2007.

Richardson graduated in 2010 with a degree in business economics from Wofford. His father Jon Richardson played wide receiver at the University of North Carolina.
