Julius McNair is in his first season as an assistant coach at the University of Richmond on head coach Russ Huesman’s staff. McNair coaches the Spiders’ running backs after spending the past four years coaching running backs at Hampton and Tennessee-Martin.
McNair spent the 2018 season as the running backs back at Hampton, helping the Pirates post a 7-3 overall record. Hampton rushing for 1,960 yards last season, including over 1,000 yards from his top two running backs William Robinson and Raeshad Herriott.
Prior to Hampton, McNair spent five years at Tennessee-Martin with his last two coaching the running backs and being the program’s recruiting coordinator. He spent his first three years with the Skyhawks coaching the defensive backs.
In 2017, he helped Ladarius Galloway lead the team in rushing with 859 yards. The Skyhawks had two rushers combined for over 1,300 yards in 2016 when Jamie Bowie and Ladevin Fair led the rushing attack.
In 2015, McNair led the defensive secondary that posted 11 interceptions and 38 pass breakups. Marquis Clemons earned All-Ohio Valley Conference honors after leading the team with 79 tackles. He guided Jordan Landry and Walter Evans to All-OVC honors in 2014 as two of the top defensive backs in the league.
McNair also played on the field at Tennessee-Martin, playing in 43 games from 2009-12, including 13 starts. The linebacker accounted for 140 career tackles, 76 solo tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, one interception, one forced fumbled and one blocked kick. He added 88 yards rushing with a pair of touchdowns while playing in a special quarterback package in 2010.
Prior to UT Martin, McNair was an All-State performer at Mount Olive High School. He threw for 2,253 yards and 24 touchdowns as a senior, leading all of Class 1A in touchdown passes.
McNair graduated from Tennessee-Martin in 2013 with a degree in business. He is married to the former Jasmyne Reese.
