2025 marked Colin McGuire's third season as an assistant coach for Dan Chemotti at the University of Richmond. McGuire spent the 2023 season as volunteer assistant coach and spent the four seasons prior on the staff at the University of Lynchburg, including three seasons as the head assistant/offensive coordinator. McGuire works with all aspects of Richmond's offense and runs the box during games.Â
In 2025, McGuire helped lead the Spiders to its best season yet. The Spiders posted a record-breaking 14–3 overall mark, including a perfect 5–0 run through Atlantic 10 play to claim their first-ever A-10 regular-season title and a second conference tournament championship in three years. Richmond earned its first NCAA Tournament victory, upsetting No. 8 North Carolina, 13–10, in Chapel Hill in a defining moment for the program. The Spiders ranked as high as No. 5 in the national polls, the highest ranking in program history, and joined only two-time defending champion Notre Dame as the only 2025 NCAA Tournament teams ranked in the top 10 nationally in both scoring offense and defense.
McGuire helped the Spiders finish the season ranked second in scoring margin, eighth in clearing percentage, ninth in scoring offense, and 11th in points per game and helped guide Aidan O'Neil, Max Merklinger and Joe Sheridan to All-America honors.
McGuire helped Richmond to one of its highest offensive output seasons in program history in 2024. The Spiders 671 shots and 218 goals in 2024 are the most-ever by a Richmond team, and its 415 (2nd) shots on goal, .325 (2nd) shot percentage and 123 (3rd) assists rank among the best ever by a Richmond offense. Under McGuire, Dalton Young and Lance Madonna were named All-American Honorable Mentions. Under McGuire in 2024, Richmond held the nation's fifth-best scoring margin, outscoring opponents by an average of 4.25 goals per game while the Spiders scoring offense ranked 12th in the nation and first in the Atlantic 10 at 13.63. Richmond's .325 shot percentage ranked ninth in the nation, while its 21.31 points per game ranked 14th under McGuire. Under his guidance, Dalton Young and Lance Madonna earned back-to-back Atlantic 10 Offensive Player and Midfielder of the Year, respectively, and Young went on to be signed by the Denver Outlaws of the Premiere Lacrosse League.Â
McGuire helped guide Richmond to the first-ever Atlantic 10 title in 2023 and assists with the Spiders offense, leading the extra-man unit. In 2023, Richmond's man-up ranked second (.407) in the Atlantic 10 and the offense produced 326 points via 206 goals and 120 assists the second-most in the conference. With McGuire's help, attackman Dalton Young was named Offensive Player of the Year and midfielder Lance Madonna was named Midfield Player of the Year.

In McGuire's time at Lynchburg, the Hornets reached the NCAA Division III tournament three times and won the Old Dominion Athletic Conference championship in 2021 and 2022. During his time with the Hornets, he helped Lynchburg post a 49-18 record (.731) over the past four seasons and a 27-3 mark (.900) record in the ODAC.
Over McGuire's time at Lynchburg he coached seven USILA All American Selections, 16 Offensive All-Conference Selections, a DIII Player of the Year in Kevin Rogers and was named to the IMLCA Region IV Coaching Staff of Year in 2021 and the ODAC Coaching Staff of Year in 2021 and 2022.
The Hornets finished the year with a 15-5 record and a 9-1 conference mark during the 2022 season, advancing to the NCAA Tournament second round. The Hornets won the ODAC Conference Championship and the 211 assists from the year are a program record, while the 37.8% shooting percentage led all of DIII. For his work in guiding the Hornets, McGuire was named a 2022 IMLCA DIII Assistant Coach of the Year Nominee.
The 2021 season saw Lynchburg win the ODAC title and advance to the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals, finishing with an 18-3 record on the year. The 365 goals produced by Lynchburg's offense in 2021 are a program record and the 202 assists led all of DIII.
The Odenton, Md., native also starred on the field for Lynchburg during his playing career. McGuire earned honorable mention All-America honors from the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association as a senior in 2018 along with All-South Region, All-State and All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference accolades.
McGuire guided Lynchburg to a 60-28 record (.681) during his four-year career, including a 30-6 mark (.833) in conference play. He was a key part of the Hornet midfield as a freshman during Lynchburg’s 2015 run to the NCAA Division III championship game, finishing the year with a 21-3 record.
McGuire was a USILA Scholar All-American in 2018 and represented Lynchburg in the Division III North-South All-Star Game. He ranks in the program’s all-time top 10 for assists in a season (32 in 2018) and in a career (85).
McGuire graduated from Lynchburg in 2018 with degrees in business administration and sport management. He earned his master’s degree in business administration in 2021.
