Nevena Markovic enters her first season with the Richmond women’s basketball program as assistant coach in 2026-27.
Markovic joins the Spiders after spending the 2024-25 season as an assistant coach at Butler. Before arriving at Butler, she spent two seasons as an assistant coach and international recruiting coordinator at Vermont, where she helped lead the Catamounts to one of the most successful stretches in program history.
At Vermont, Markovic helped guide the Catamounts to their first America East regular-season championship since 2001-02 and their first America East Tournament title since 2009-10. The tournament championship sent Vermont to its first NCAA Tournament since 2010.
During the 2022-23 season, Vermont put together a 17-game winning streak from Jan. 4 to March 10, marking the program’s longest winning streak since 2001-02. The Catamounts won 25 games in each of Markovic’s two seasons on staff and advanced to the WNIT Fab 4 in 2023-24.
Prior to her time at Vermont, Markovic served as an assistant coach at St. Francis during the 2017-18 season. She also worked as a skills coach in Plainfield, Illinois, and as a program coordinator and assistant coach with the Illinois Rockets U17 and U14 programs.
Markovic played collegiately at IU Indy, formerly IUPUI, where she was the first recruit signed by head coach Austin Parkinson. She was named Summit League Freshman of the Year in 2012 and later earned Second Team All-Summit League honors during her career. A team captain for the Jaguars, Markovic finished her career ranked 15th in program history with 1,116 career points, sixth with 691 rebounds and third with 127 blocks. She also ranked among the top five in program history with 12 career double-doubles.
Following her collegiate career, Markovic played professionally for seven seasons in Spain, Hungary, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and France. She won the Slovakian Cup and Slovakian League Championship during the 2018-19 season, participated in EuroCup competition on four occasions and was part of the Serbian Senior National Team Training Camp. She also competed with the Serbian U20 team.
Markovic earned her bachelor’s degree in sports management from IU Indy in 2015 with a minor in business.
