Sam Brenner enters her first season with the Richmond women’s basketball program as chief of staff in 2026-27.
Brenner arrives at Richmond following a stint as chief of staff for the women’s basketball program at VCU from 2023-26.
At VCU, Brenner handled both internal and external operations for the program, including donor and alumni relations, NIL calendars, international student onboarding, budget oversight and team statistical analytics.
Before arriving at VCU, Brenner spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Brown. During her time with the Bears, she was responsible for scouting opponents, assisting in player development, overseeing summer camps and coordinating film operations. Brown led the Ivy League in steals and blocks during the 2022-23 season.
Prior to Brown, Brenner served as associate head coach at UT Permian Basin from 2018-21, where she worked primarily with the program’s post players while also overseeing operations, including team travel, meals, equipment distribution and camp scheduling. She additionally served as the campus and community liaison for the program.
Brenner also spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Franklin Pierce from 2016-18. In that role, she assisted with recruiting, operations, scouting, academic advising and community service while working closely with the team’s post players.
As a student-athlete, Brenner played collegiately at Vermont and Adelphi. She appeared in 32 games at Vermont before transferring to Adelphi, where she started 53 games and helped lead the program to a Northeast 10 Championship, NCAA Tournament appearance and a No. 3 national ranking.
A Nashua, N.H. native, Brenner earned her bachelor’s degree in sport management from Adelphi before completing her MBA with a concentration in sport management at Franklin Pierce.
