Jenna Slowey joined the University of Richmond women's lacrosse program as an assistant coach in the summer of 2016 and wrapped up her fourth season with the Spiders in 2020. She has helped the program advance to three Atlantic 10 Tournament title games as well as advance to the NCAA Tournament in back-to-back seasons (2018-19).
The Spiders got of to the program's best start at 7-0 and earned a No. 10 national ranking before the 2020 was halted. Richmond defeated No. 6 ranked and previously undefeated Virginia 13-12 in overtime to move into the national rankings. The Spiders won their remaining two games before the season came to an end, finishing the season ranked in the top-20 in all three polls, including No. 10 in the Mavrik/Inside Lacrosse Poll. Redshirt junior Sam Geiersbach and freshman Arden Teirney were named 2020 Inside Lacrosse Media Honorable Mention All-America. Geiersbach was also named to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List in mid-February. The Spiders are 54-14 over the last four seasons and have the sixth most wins in the nation over the last three seasons (40). Richmond has finished each of the past three seasons in the top-30 in the country in the RPI, including 20th in 2018.
In 2019, the Spiders set a new program record with 17 wins while winning their second-straight Atlantic 10 Championship title with a 19-18 comeback in in overtime over UMass. The team competed in its second-straight NCAA Tournament and fifth all-time to finish the year at 17-4 overall. Five student-athletes earned first or second team All-Conference honors, led by two-time Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year Julie Ball, who became the first student-athlete in A-10 history to earn the honor more than once. The Spiders boasted one All-Rookie Team and three All-Academic Team honorees, while Ball also earned IWLCA Second Team All-Region honors for the second-straight season.
In just her second season with the Spiders, the 2018 squad tied a program-best record of 16-4 overall, finished in a tie for first in the Atlantic 10 Regular Season, and took the 2018 A-10 Tournament Title with a 12-11 overtime win over UMass. The squad advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2007, while eight student-athletes earned All-Conference honors, including A-10 Offensive Player of the Year Kim Egizi and A-10 Defensive Player of the Year Julie Ball. Egizi and Ball also earned IWLCA Second Team All-Region honors for their efforts.
Slowey helped lead the 2017 squad to a 14-6 overall record and a runner-up finish at the Atlantic 10 Championship. Nine student-athletes earned All-Conference honors on the year, including A-10 Rookie of the Year Sam Geiersbach, and First Team honorees Kim Egizi and goalie Megan Gianforte.
With Slowey's guidance, Geiersbach wrapped up a stellar season by breaking the single-seaosn records for points and goals on her way to earning Second Team All-Conference honors. Attacker Marissa Brown was also named to the A-10 Second Team.
Slowey brings experience in developing practice schedules and assisting athletes throughout the college recruiting process from her time as head coach for South Jersey Select Lacrosse Club, a position she has held every summer since 2011.
A native of Moorestown, New Jersey, Slowey was a student-athlete at Fairfield for four seasons, serving as team captain as a senior in 2014. She was named to the All-MAAC Second Team, as well as the All-Tournament Team in 2013. As a freshman, Slowey was named the MAAC Rookie of the Week twice.
One of 10 players all time to play in 70 or more games during career at Fairfield, she finished her career ranked 13th all time in points, 12th all time in goals, 12th all time in assists and still sits in the top 20 in all three categories.
Slowey was also strong academically, earning All-MAAC Academic Team honors from 2012-14 and being named to the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll in 2013 and 2014. She was also a member of the “3.0 Club” at Fairfield every semester.
She graduated from Fairfield in 2014 with a degree in Marketing.
