Jesse Newton enters her first season as an assistant coach for the University of Richmond women’s soccer program in 2026.
Newton joins the Spiders with experience across the collegiate, youth and international levels, most recently serving as an assistant coach and director of player development at Oakland University. In that role, she assisted with recruiting, training sessions and match preparation while designing individualized development plans for players. She also oversaw video analysis and contributed to a turnaround that saw the program improve its conference standing and advance to the Horizon League semifinals.
Prior to her time at Oakland, Newton served as a graduate assistant coach at Lynn University, where she supported daily operations, training sessions and recruiting efforts. She has also remained active in the youth soccer landscape as a coach with Michigan Jaguars FC and the Olympic Development Program East Region, working with multiple age groups and contributing to championship-level teams.
Newton brings international experience to Richmond, having competed professionally with MSV Duisburg in Germany during the 2023-24 season. She appeared in 14 matches as a defender and added two assists. While overseas, she also served as an assistant coach for the club’s U15 team, helping guide the squad to a league championship while contributing to training sessions, match preparation and player development.
A St. Petersburg, Fla. native, Newton began her collegiate playing career at Presbyterian College, where she was a four-year letterwinner. She used her fifth year of eligibility at Lynn University while completing her master’s degree.
Newton holds a bachelor’s degree in history from Presbyterian College and earned her MBA from Lynn University. She also holds a United States Soccer Federation “D” License and is currently pursuing her “C” License.
