- Volunteer Assistant Coach
Former Spider soccer standout Melissa Pacheco returns the University of Richmond family for the 2016 season as a volunteer assistant coach.
The goalkeeper returns to the Richmond coaching staff after spending two years as a Production Assistant and Guest Manager for Local Programming at WTVR-TV.
Pacheco spent the 2013 season as Assistant Coach for the Spiders after serving a one-year stint as an assistant coach at Randolph-Macon College.
She will work with the three Spider goalkeepers as their technical coach upon her return to Richmond.
The Shawnee, Kansas native graduated as one of the most decorated goalkeepers in program history. A four-year starter, Pacheco appeared in 48 games as a Spider, earning 44 starts and collected 216 career saves, ranking third all-time.
Pacheco’s career goals against average of 0.97 ranks first all-time at Richmond, while her .838 career save percentage also topped the program’s record list. She recorded 13.5 career shutouts, ranking fourth all-time.
An All-Conference second team selection as a senior, she collected 67 saves and helped guide the Spiders to a 13-5-3 record in 2011, their best mark since 2002. That same year, Richmond won five-straight games, tying a program-record and made a return appearance in the A-10 Tournament.
Pacheco graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Rhetoric and Communications and a minor in creative writing in May of 2012.
