Spiders Claim 84-80 Overtime Win Over Colonials

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Sophomore guard Reggie Brown (Flushing, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) scored nine of his career-high 28 points in overtime to lead the Richmond Spiders to an 84-80 win against the George Washington Colonials tonight in our nation's capital.
Richmond raised its record to 5-1, its best start since the 1990-91 season. George Washington fell to 5-3.
Brown nailed a three-pointer with 1:55 remaining in overtime to give the Spiders a 76-75 advantage, a lead they would not relinquish. Brown was 6-6 from the free throw line in the final 18 seconds of the contest, securing the win for Richmond.
Brown was 7-13 from the floor, 3-6 on three-pointers and 11-13 from the foul line. He also had two assists and one steal in 35 minutes of action.
The Spiders built an 11-point lead during the first 20 minutes. Richmond used an 11-4 run over the final three minutes of the first period to take a 35-24 lead at halftime. George Washington sophomore guard SirValiant Brown scored 26 of his 28 points in the second half. He scored the final 10 points for the Colonials over the last 2:20 of regulation, including a three-pointer with 31 seconds left that tied the game at 69-69 and sent it into overtime. SirValient Brown was 7-14 from the floor in the second stanza, including 4-5 from behind the arc, and 8-10 from the free throw line. He did not score in overtime, missing a pair of three-pointers.
Senior forward Greg Stevenson (Fayetteville, N.C./71st) tallied 19 points and eight rebounds for the Spiders. Junior guard Scott Ungerer (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) added 10 points and six assists for Richmond.
Sophomore guard Chris Monroe had 20 points and five offensive rebounds for the Colonials. Senior guard Mike King had 17 points and eight rebounds for George Washington.
Richmond entertains Marist on Tuesday, December 12 at 7:30 p.m. at the Robins Center.
