Richmond Defeats NWBL Elite Travel Team, 112-87 In Exhibition Action

RICHMOND, Va. - Junior forward Tasha Swaby (Satellite Beach, Fla./Satellite) and sophomore forward Cammy Desmond (Midlothian, Va./James River) each scored 16 points and junior Michele Koclanes (Pelham, N.Y./Pelham Memorial) dished out 15 assists as the University of Richmond women's basketball team recorded a 112-87 victory over NWBL Elite at the Robins Center.
Senior forward Lizz Greene (Berwyn, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) pouered in 15 points for the Spiders. Senior guard Candice Edwards (Newport News, Va./Menchville) and senior forward Carolyn Constantakis (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Catholic) each tallied 12 points.
NWBL Elite had five players in double figures. Kimberly Smith had 22 points, Jeanine Jean-Pierre had 19, Kaila Walker and Kisha Burns each scored 13 and Toni Dickerson added 10 for the visitors.
Richmond jumped out to a 64-46 halftime lead and cruised through the second half. The Spiders had a 71-46 advantage on the boards. Richmond freshman center Stephanie Murray (Nepean, Ontario, Canada/St. Pius X) corralled a game-high 18 rebounds. Sophomore center Ebony Tanner (Garner, N.C./Ravenscroft) chipped in 13 rebounds for the Spiders.
The Spiders will attempt to break the program's scoring record for a fourth straight season. With tonight's scoring output, Richmond has eclipsed the century mark in each of the last five years.
Richmond opens the regular season on Saturday, November 18 at Marist. The home opener for the Spiders is on Thursday, November 30, at 11:30 a.m. against Wake Forest.
