RICHMOND, Va. - Richmond forward Heather Rice (Oklahoma City, Okla./Heritage Hall) scored the game-winner with 18:25 remaining in the contest to lift the visiting Spiders over Virginia Commonwealth, 1-0 Sunday in Colonial Athletic Association action. The victory was the third straight for the Spiders and their second consecutive shutout.
The Spiders would get on the board in the second stanza when Rice fired the penalty corner shot into the cage for the first score of the game. Megan Conway (Forty-Fort, Pa./ Wyoming Seminary) and Holly Chase (Haddonfield N.J./Haddonfield) assisted on the goal.
The Richmond defense allowed only seven shots, two in the second half, and limited the Rams to five penalty corners. Richmond goalkeeper Brooke Fuller (Ashland, Mass./Ashland) collected six saves.
The Spiders improve to 6-8, 1-2 on the season. Richmond returns to action on Saturday as the Spiders travel to Norfolk to face the Old Dominion Monarchs. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
