RICHMOND, Va. (AP)- Sherman Rivers gave William & Mary the lead with a short jumper in the lane with 4.3 seconds remaining and the Tribe held on to defeat Richmond 60-57 Saturday.
William & Mary (6-11, 3-4 Colonial Athletic Association), had a 14-0 run over 7:02 of the first half to take a 14-10 lead with 10:24 remaining.
However, the Spiders came back and eventually took a 34-27 halftime lead.
Greg Stevenson's three-pointer with 14:22 remaining in the game gave the Spiders (11-5, 3-3), a 45-36 lead. William & Mary outscored Richmond 17-2 over the next 11:14 to take a 53-47 lead.
The Spiders led one more time, on a three-pointer by Rick Houston with 12.3 seconds left.
Rivers' field goal gave the Tribe a 58-57 lead and Mike Johnson iced the game with two free throws with 2.8 seconds remaining.
Richmond's Reggie Brown missed a three-pointer at the buzzer.
Johnson led the Tribe with 22 points.
Stevenson had 13 and Tim Faulconer added 12 for the Spiders.
