Senior Heather Rice Becomes Field Hockey's All-Time Leader

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. -- University of Richmond senior forward Heather Rice (Oklahoma City, Okla./Heritage Hall) scored the game-winner at the 30:19 mark of the second half to give the Spiders a 1-0 victory over Georgetown in college field hockey action on Wednesday afternoon. With the goal, Rice became the program's all-time career points leader (133).
The teams played to a scoreless tie in the first half before Rice struck with her 14th goal of the season less than five minutes into the second stanza. Richmond freshman Amy Wilson (Johannesburg, South Africa/Roedean School) fed Rice in the right corner of the circle who found an opening in the left corner of the box. Earlier this season, Rice became Richmond's all-time career leader in goals scored (61).
With the victory, Richmond improves to 10-9 on the season, its first winning season since 1993. The Spiders travel to Philadelphia this weekend for the Verizon Atlantic 10 Field Hockey Championships. They will face the top-seeded UMass Minutewomen on Saturday at 12:00.
