Swimming Races Past William & Mary and Georgia Southern

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The University of Richmond swimming team defeated William & Mary and Georgia Southern in a tri-meet held in Williamsburg, Va. The Spiders outscored Georgia Southern, 219-78, and William & Mary, 153-147, in a closely contested battle.
It was an all-around team effort that propelled Richmond to victory, but two wins each by sophomore Maureen Sabri and freshman Mary Adams keyed the Spiders. Sabri won the 50-yard free (24.84) and the 100-yard free (54.09). Adams won the 1,000-yard free (10:29.82) and the 200-yard fly (2:07.78).
In just her seventh collegiate meet, Adams continues to swim her name into the Richmond record book. Her time in the 1,000-yard freestyle is the seventh best of all-time and her time in the 200-yard butterfly is the fourth best of all-time, fastest this season.
Freshman Erin Lears also enjoyed a stellar meet, winning the 500-yard free (5:08.45) and placing second in the 1,000-yard free (10:34.33). Junior Elizabeth Cook garnered two second-place finishes -- in the 200-yard backstroke (2:09.14) and the 400-yard individual medley (4:34.59). Cook's time in the 400-yard IM is the fourth best in program history.
The Spiders' 400-yard free relay team, composed of Julie Waizenhofer, Kristin Newkirk, Sabri and Adams won their event in a time of 3:35.17.
The Spiders return to action at Noon on Saturday, November 18 at Pennsylvania.
