LeGrand Paces The Spiders To A Fourth Place Finish At The Lou Onesty Invitational

Paced by senior Matt LeGrand (Hunstville, Ala.), the University of Richmond men's cross country team opened its fall campaign placing fourth of 11 teams at the Lou Onesty Invitational on Saturday. The Spiders posted a team score of 154 points.
Individually, LeGrand was Richmond's top finisher, placing ninth in 26:17.37. Meanwhile, senior Jeff Crook (Shrewbury, N.J.) came in 29th place with a time of 27:40.66. Sophomore Matt Hannay (Princeton, N.J.) and fellow second-year standout Jeff Watson (Darien, Conn.) placed 45th (28:27.14) and 46th (28:33.00), respectively. In their first collegiate events, freshmen Seann Mulcahy (Wynantskill, N.Y.) and Tim Caramore (East Greenbush, N.Y.) finished 49th (28:44.22) and 50th (28:45.67).
Rounding out Richmond's other finishes were sophomore Peter Jackson (Straham, N.H.) in 55th (29:01.35) freshman Stefan O'Zwoldike (Tuckerton, N.J.) in 67th (30:00.77) and freshman Jon Lauder (Oakton, Va.) in 76th (31:15.05).
Richmond's women's cross country team will open its season on Saturday, September 16, taking part in the Wolfpack Women's Invitational in Raleigh, N.C. at 10 a.m. The Spiders men's team is back in action on Friday, September 29 at the George Washington University Invitational.
