Richmond's Men's And Women's Cross Country Teams Competitive At The George Washington Invitational

CENTREVILLE, Va. -
The University of Richmond women's and men's cross country teams finished 5th of 15 teams and 10th of 19 teams, respectively at the George Washington University Invitational this afternoon at Bull Run Regional Park. The women's team finished with 135 points, while the men's squad totaled 299 points.
The Spiders women's finishers were paced by freshman Emily Walton (Chicago, Ill.), who placed a team-best 20th in 19:21.00. Meanwhile, fellow newcomer Lyndsey Webber (Sayville, N.Y.) finished 24th in 19:24.59. One of three Spiders to place in the top-30, sophomore Anne Rettig (Charlottesville, Va.) came in 28th place in 19:35.81. First-year runner Emily Ward (Woodbury, N.J.) and sophomore Katie Sloan (Severna Park, Md.) delivered 31st (19:47.65) and 32nd (19:47.81) finishes, respectively.
In men's competiton, senior Matt LeGrand (Huntsville, Ala.) continued his outstanding fall campaign, placing a Richmond-best 17th (26:12.70). LeGrand opened the season with a ninth-place finish at the Lou Onesty Invitational on September 12. In addition, freshman Dan Kane (West Chester, Pa.) recorded a 47th place finish in 27:03.06. Sophomore Matt Hannay (Princeton, N.J.) clocked 27:53.88 to place 77th, while freshman Tim Caramore (East Greenbush, N.Y.) and sophomore Pete Jackson (Stratham, N.H.) came in 83rd (28:04.28) and 84th (28:04.94), respectively. Sophomore Jeff Watson (Darien, Conn.) finished 90th in 28:15.85.
Richmond returns to action on Friday, October 7 to host George Washington University at 10:15 a.m.
