A four-year letterwinner and CAA scholar-athlete for Richmond's women's swimming and diving program from 1995-99, Michelle Carter is now pursuing her master's degree in at La Salle University.
"When I reflect on my time spent at the University of Richmond, I can't help but smile. Attending Richmond was the best decision of my life. Not only did I enjoy four years there, but I was also prepared for life following graduation in a way I never imagined possible. From the small classes to the diverse amount of extracurricular activities, Richmond has something to offer everyone.
The academic environment at Richmond truly prepared me for graduate school. The small, intimate classes allowed for a great amount of teacher-student interaction and participation. Specifically, The Jepson School of Leadership Studies gave me the ability to work with many different types of people. Graduate school is giving me the specific skills I will need to excel in my field, but Richmond equipped me with the overarching skills to succeed in life.
There are a multitude of opportunities at Richmond in and out of the classroom. The idea that there really is something for everyone is a reality. Being involved in so many different activities made my collegiate experience so much more complete. And being a member of the varsity swimming team gave me lifelong friends. From my first day at Richmond, my fellow students, profeesors and coaches supported me and saw me through both the good and the bad times. As a member of the Richmond swimming team, I learned to be team player, the value of a positive attitude, to accept success and to deal with failure.
I have found that the University of Richmond offers everything I needed to succeed in life. In my time at Richmond, I was repeatedly asked to examine and scrutinize who I was and what I valued. At Richmond, I developed deep friendships with people that have remained constant throughout my life. Today, I am working toward achieving all of my dreams because of my time spent at the University of Richmond."
