Richmond's Men's And Women's Cross Country Teams Continue Their Fall Campaign At The CAA Championships

The University of Richmond men's and women's cross country teams continued their fall schedules at the Colonial Athletic Association men's and women's cross country championships today in Greenville, N.C. Unofficially, the Richmond's women's cross country team finished third of nine teams, while the men were sixth of nine squads.
The Spiders' women's team was paced by freshman Emily Walton (Chicago, Ill.) who placed 15th overall in 22:51.46 Sophmore Sherry Sikora (Succasunna, N.J.) came in 17th place (23:08.34), while freshman Lyndsey Webber (Sayville, N.Y.) finished one place behind her in 23:09.52. In addition, sophomore Anne Rettig (Charlottesville, Va.) covered the 6,000 meter run in 23:27.90 to finish 25th. Sophomore Sarah Dill (Ashland, Ky.) helped the Richmond cause, clocking 23:41 to place 30th. Rounding out Richmond's finishers were sophomore Bridget Keenan (Newport News, Va.) who was 33rd (23:55.63), sophomore Katie Sloan (Severna Park, Md.) who notched a 38th place finish (24:12.25), freshman Emily Ward (Woodbury, N.J.) placed 40th (24:20.77), sophomore Alison Belicose (Red Bank, N.J.) who was 49th (24:51.85) and sophomore Rachael Babb (Richmond, Va.) who came in 55th (25.23.91).
In men's competition, Richmond was again paced by senior Matt LeGrand (Huntsville, Ala.). He completed the 8,000 meter run in 25:36.98 to record a 15th place finish. His placement was the program's best since 1993 (Steve Conroy). Senior Jeff Crook (Shrewbury, N.J.) delivered a 33rd place finish in 26:40.39, while sophomore Matt Hannay (Princeton, N.J.) was 38th in 27:02.77. In addition, sophomore Peter Jackson (Stratham, N.H.) clocked 27:43.25 to place 48th. Freshman Dan Kane (West Chester, Pa.) came in 50th place (27:51.00). Fellow newcomer Tim Caramore (East Greenbush, N.Y.) recorded a 51st place finish (27:58.82). Sophomore Jeff Watson (Darien, Conn.) came in 53rd place (28:43.61). Freshman Seann Mulcahy (Wynantskill, N.Y.) was 60th (29:47.31).
A host of Richmond runners will compete in the NCAA Regionals in Greenville, S.C. on Saturday, November 11 at 10 a.m.
