Larrison Holds Down Spiders 6-2

Wilmington, North Carolina - Junior righthander Preston Larisson allowed one run over eight innings as the Evansville Purple Aces defeated the University of Richmond Spiders 6-2 on the first day of the Hughes Brothers Baseball Challenge at Brooks Field in Wilmington, N.C.
Evansville snapped a two-game losing streak, improving to 3-1. Richmond had its two-game winning streak halted, falling to 3-6.
Larisson (1-1) allowed seven hits, all singles, in his 8.0 innings of work. He gave up one run, walked one and struck out six.
Evansville scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the first. Junior centerfielder Joey Vandever led off with a triple and scored on a double by senior Wes Carroll, who came home on a single by junior catcher Matt Serafini. The Purple Aces scored three times in the bottom of the fourth and added a single run in the sixth to take a 6-0 lead.
Richmond scored one time in the seventh inning against Larisson. With two outs, freshman Adam Tidball (Bethesda, Md./Georgetown Prep) singled, moved to second on a single by freshman second baseman Bobby LeNoir (Wilmington, Del./Salesianum) and scored on a single by senior John Nathans (Warwick, N.Y./Trinity Pawling). The Spiders added a run in the ninth on a homer to left by Tidball, his third home run of the season. Tidball and LeNoir each had two hits for Richmond.
Junior righthander Bobby Basham (Rocky Mount, Va./Franklin County) went all the way for the Spiders, hurling 8.0 innings with 10 hits, six runs, four earned runs, one walk and 12 strikeouts.
Richmond will face Appalachian State on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. on day two of the Hughes Brothers Baseball Challenge in Wilmington, N.C.
