Spiders to Host West Virginia In NIT

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The University of Richmond basketball team will host West Virginia University in the first round of the 2001 National Invitation Tournament. The game will be played on Friday, March 16 at 7:30 p.m. in the Robins Center.
Tickets are $10.00 for adults, youth and seniors and $4.00 for University of Richmond students. The ticket office will open on Monday, March 12 at 8:30 a.m. To order tickets, please call the Robins Center Ticket Office at 804-289-8388.
The Spiders, under fourth-year head coach John Beilein, were 21-6 overall this season and 12-4 in the Colonial Athletic Association. Richmond was the CAA regular season champion. The Spiders were ineligible for the CAA Tournament and the league's automatic bid because of their move to the Atlantic 10 this summer.
Richmond and West Virginia have met 52 times before, when both schools were in the Southern Conference. The Mountaineers own a 40-12 advantage against the Spiders. The teams have not met since 1976.
It will be Richmond's 11th post-season appearance. It marks the fifth time the Spiders have played in the NIT and their first time since 1992.
Richmond is 2-4 overall in NIT games. The Spiders are 2-2 in the Robins Center and 0-2 on the road in NIT contests. Richmond is 2-2 in opening round games and 0-2 in second round contests.
