Dukes Claim 5-2 CAA Win Over Spiders

Richmond, Virginia - Sophomore first baseman Eddie Kim (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax) homered to extend his hitting streak to 12 games and scored two runs in leading the James Madison University Dukes to a 5-2 Colonial Athletic Association victory over the University of Richmond Spiders this afternoon at Pitt Field. James Madison raised its record to 24-18-1 overall and 7-8 in the CAA, while the Spiders fell to 21-21 overall and 7-10 in the CAA.
Richmond took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a home run to left field by sophomore first baseman Vito Chiaravalloti (Middletown, N.J./Christian Brothers), his 14th of the season. Kim tied the contest at 1-1 in the top of the second with a blast to right center, his fourth of the spring.
The Dukes took a 2-1 lead in the fourth on a leadoff double by Kim and a sacrifice fly by junior DH Dustin Bowman (Dayton, Va./Turner Ashby). The Spiders tied it at 2-2 in the bottom of the fourth on a walk to Chiaravalloti, a single by freshman catcher Adam Tidball (Bethesda, Md./Georgetown Prep) and an RBI single by freshman outfielder Chris Dolan (Holmdel, N.J./Christian Brothers).
JMU took the lead for good in the top of the fifth on a homer to centerfield by sophomore third baseman Brent Metheny (Moorefield, W. Va./Moorefield), his seventh of the season. The Dukes added a pair of runs in the top of the seventh to make the final 5-2. Sophomore second baseman Mitch Rigsby (Glen Allen, Va./Hermitage) singled and scored in the seventh to extend his hitting streak to 14 games.
Sophomore lefthander Dan Meyer (Mickletown, N.J./Kingsway) was the starter and winner for JMU, going 5.1 innings with four hits, two runs, four walks and four strikeouts. Freshman lefthander Kurt Isenberg (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) hurled two scoreless innings to earn his second save of the spring.
Richmond will play at VMI on Tuesday, April 24 at 3:00 p.m. James Madison will host Virginia on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m.
