Chiaravalloti Named CAA Player of the Week

Richmond, Virginia - University of Richmond sophomore first baseman Vito Chiaravalloti has been named Player of the Week in the Colonial Athletic Association.
A native of Middletown, New Jersey, and a 1999 graduate of Christian Brothers Academy, Chiaravalloti scored nine runs and knocked in nine runs in Richmond's five wins this past week. He batted .333 (6-18) with one double, three home runs and eight walks. His on-base percentage this past week was .519 and his slugging percentage was .889. He homered on Tuesday at home against Virginia and at George Washington on Wednesday to give him home runs in five consecutive games, a school record.
Chiaravalloti was 2-4 with a homer, two walks, four runs and three RBI in Richmond's 17-4 win over Virginia on Tuesday. On Wednesday at George Washington, he was 2-4 with one home run, one walk, two runs and three RBI in the Spiders' 10-5 victory. Chiaravalloti was 0-3 against George Mason on Friday with a walk and an RBI as the Spiders won 8-2. He was 0-2 with three walks and one run in Saturday's 8-1 win against the Patriots. Chiaravalloti was 2-5 on Sunday at George Mason with one homer, one walk, two runs and two RBI as the Spiders won 14-3.
Chiaravalloti leads the Spiders with 10 doubles, eight home runs, 35 runs scored and 30 walks. He is one of three Spiders to start all 33 games this spring. Chiaravalloti is batting .316 with an on-base percentage of .457 and slugging percentage of .607.
The Spiders, under 17th-year head coach Ron Atkins, have won five consecutive games and seven of their past eight contests. Richmond is 17-16 overall and 5-6 in the CAA. The Spiders travel to Radford on Tuesday, host George Washington on Wednesday and play a three-game CAA series at nationally-ranked East Carolina this weekend.
