University of Richmond head women's basketball coach Bob Foley has added Taj Abraham to the Spiders coaching staff.
Abraham, a native of St. Croix, Virgin Islands, is a 1993 graduate of Kecoughtan High School in Hampton, Virginia. A 1997 graduate of George Washington University, Abraham helped to guide the Colonials to the Elite Eight in the 1997 NCAA Tournament and led GW to a 103-27 record in four seasons. Abraham was named the 1996-97 Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Year while also earning a spot on the 1997 Kodak All-America team. In addition, she was the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year in 1993-94. In April 1997, Abraham was selected by the Sacramento Monarchs in the fourth round (31st overall) in the WNBA Draft. She was the third pick of the Detroit Shock in the 1998 WNBA Expansion Draft. In two seasons in the WNBA, Abraham averaged 3.5 points and 1.9 rebounds a game. For the past year, Abraham has worked as an administrative assistant with the George Washington University women's basketball team.
"Taj brings enthusiasm to this program," said Foley. "She loves the game and was a great player. We hope Taj will inspire our post players to take their games to the next level."
Richmond registered a mark of 16-10 this past season, matching the most wins for the program since the 1996-97 season. The Spiders will compete in the Atlantic 10 conference next season.
