Taylors to Head Track & Field Programs at Richmond

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. --The University of Richmond has announced the hiring of Lori Taylor as head women's cross country and track & field coach/Director of Track & Field at the University. In addition, Steve Taylor has been named as the head men's cross country and track & field coach. The Taylors come to Richmond after 10 years of coaching at Virginia Tech.
During her tenure at Virginia Tech, Lori Taylor guided the Hokies to four Atlantic 10 Track & Field Championships, two each of indoor and outdoor. She directed 52 conference champions, 182 all-conference performers and three All-Americans while at Virginia Tech. Taylor was selected the Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year on three occasions, 1997 Indoor, 1997 Outdoor and 1998 Outdoor. Taylor starred in both cross country and track at Virginia Tech during her undergraduate career. She was an All-American in both sports. She was inducted into the Virginia Tech Sports Hall of Fame in 2000. A native of Annandale, Va., Taylor graduated in 1985 from Tech with a B.S. in technology education and earned a master's in vocational/technical education in 1988.
In addition to heading the men's cross country and track & field program at Richmond, Steve Taylor will assist his wife, Lori in all aspects of the men's and women's programs. Taylor coached the men's cross country squad to two Atlantic 10 Conference titles and three runner-up crowns in his tenure at Virginia Tech. His team also garnered a Metro Conference Championship in 1994. Taylor was twice named Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year (1996, 1997) and also was selected Metro Coach of the Year (1994). In the past 10 years at Tech, Taylor coached 13 All District III Cross Country performers, 27 conference champions and 108 all-conference selections. An All-American in both cross country and track while an undergraduate at Virginia Tech, Taylor was inducted into the school's Hall of Fame in 1999. In 1988, the St. Mary's, W.Va. native received his bachelor of science in education from Virginia Tech. Taylor was named an alternate to the 1992 U.S. Olympic team after finishing sixth at the 1992 Olympic Trials.
