University of Richmond, Va. - Refigerators. Boxes. Computers. More boxes. Cinderblocks. Even more boxes. They all needed to be moved from cars and parking lots into dorm rooms as the University of Richmond opened its doors to the 2001 freshman class. The worried look on parents faces turned to relief as the Spiders men's and women's soccer and football teams came to the rescue.
On a warm, sunny day, cars and trucks snaked along the way to Lora Robins Court and Gray Hall, packed with all those "invaluable can't live without items" that freshmen need to survive at college. Spider fall sports student-athletes, already on-campus for practice, were poised to assist, unloading those packed trunks and rooftops. The women's soccer team was there first thing in the morning, prior to traveling to Duke for an exhibition match later that day. The men's soccer squad followed during late morning - when traffic was at its busiest. The football team followed during the early afternoon hours.
For the student-athletes, it was a break from their daily practice routine and a first chance to meet, greet and help out the newest female residents of Westhampton College. For the parents, it was simply a break from moving in all of their daughters' belongings.
This is the second year Spider student-athletes have assisted with freshman move-in day at Westhampton College. Take a look as the football team participates in one of the University of Richmond's newest traditions...

From computers to paper towels, the Spiders never fumbled.

The Spiders were happy to lend a helping hand.

It takes the whole family, and several Richmond football players, to move everything into the dorm.
Check out the men's soccer team in action during move-in day!
