UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. (Jan. 5) -- Junior guard Reggie Brown (Flushing, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) scored 31 points while teammate Jeff Myers (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) added 14, both career-highs, to lift Richmond (7-7, 1-0) to a 77-57 win over La Salle (7-6, 0-1) on Saturday evening at the Robins Center. The win was the Spiders first as a member of the Atlantic 10.
Richmond jumped out to an 8-0 advantage, but a Rahsheed Quadri three-pointer with 7:20 remaining in the half tied the contest at 19. The Spiders closed out the half on a 17-4 tear hitting six of its final seven shots. A Jeff Myers' fadeaway triple in the final :30 seconds gave the Spiders a 13-point advantage at the break (36-23).
La Salle would pull to within five (38-33) with 15:27 remaining, but that would as close as the Explorers would get. Another 17-4 run pushed the Spiders lead back to double digits to stay. Richmond, who led by as many as 22 points in the second half, hit 29 of 30 from the charity stripe in the contest.
Sophmore forward Mike Skrocki (Howell, N.J./Christian Brothers) added 11 points for the Spiders. Explorers forward Rasual Butler, the Atlantic 10's second-leading scorer (24.5 ppg), was held to just four points.
