CINCINNATI, OH --- The University of Richmond dropped a 2-1 decision to Xavier University Friday evening at Xavier's Corcoran Field.
The two teams battled to a scoreless tie in first half of action. Xavier got on the board first in the second half as freshman Jessica Robb served a perfect long pass to sophomore Lauren Giesting, who found the back of the net at the 48:46 mark. The Spiders wasted little time answering when freshman Annette Isham (Denver, Colo.) took a pass from junior Edda Gardarsdottir and knocked in a shot just to the left of the goalie's outstretched arms. It deadlocked the score at 1-1 in the 52nd minute.
The Musketeers got what proved to be the game-winner in the 70th minute as Lauren Giesting flicked a short pass in front of the goal to the right foot of Tracy Veith, who finished it off to give XU a 2-1 lead.
The loss was Richmond's first in A-10 play (3-1).XU outshot UR 10-8, including a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal.
Richmond travels to Dayton on Sunday for a 1:00 matchup.
