Lacrosse head coach Sue Murphy recently announced that seniors Kristy Gallagher (Chatsworth, N.J.) and Katie Dolan (Towson, Md.) and junior Jen Cielewich (Severna Park, Md.) will serve as tri-captains for the 2002-03 season.
"Some might wonder, why three? Having three captains is a testament to our leadership with Gallagher and Dolan being seniors and Cielewich a junior. All three are very deserving of this honor BUT will work very hard behind the scenes to help build this program," said Murphy. "Often times the amount of work and time put in as a captain is unrecognizable, but it will be there...believe me!"
Gallagher, the co-Defender of the Year, helped the Spider defense to a 9.25 goals against average, second best in the conference last season. The Chatsworth, N.J. native caused 18 turnovers and gathered 30 ground balls. Also a threat on offense, Gallagher tallied 26 goals and three assists for 29 points, fourth most on the Spider squad.
Dolan started all 16 games in the 2001-02 season and tallied 25 goals and eight assists in the midfield. The Towson, Md. native, notched a team-high 50 ground balls and caused 22 turnovers. Dolan also led the team with 36 draw controls.
Cielewich, a transfer from Boston University, played in 17 games last season and recorded eight goals and two assists. She led the team with 34 caused turnovers and tallied 48 ground balls.
"I am confident of the abilities of the three captains - Gallagher, Dolan and Cielewich - both on and off the field," Murphy stated. "As players they set the standard for excellence in many different areas of our game. As individuals, they are leaders and will compliment one another as they take tremendous pride in accountability."
