Field Hockey Sweeps Weekly Atlantic 10 Honors

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - University of Richmond field hockey players Melissa Yuppa (Fairfield, NJ) and Michelle Swartz (Severna Park, Md.) were honored this afternoon by the Atlantic 10 following their play over the weekend.
Yuppa, named Player of the Week, scored three goals in Richmond's two conference victories. On Friday, against La Salle, she netted two goals, including the game-winner, and added another against West Chester on Sunday. On the season, Yuppa has tallied six goals and one assist. This is the first time that the graduate student has received the honor.
Rookie of the Week Swartz helped lead the Spiders to a perfect 6-0 record in conference play. She recorded her seventh shutout of the season in Richmond's 3-0 win over West Chester. Against La Salle, she allowed just one goal and made two saves. Swartz is leading the Atlantic 10 with an overall goals against average of 1.28. This is Swartz's third Rookie of the Week honor.
Richmond faces cross-town rival VCU on Wednesday, October 30 at Cary Street Field. Game time is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
