Cross Country Set to Compete in the Atlantic 10 Championships

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The University of Richmond's cross country teams will compete in the Atlantic 10 Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships at Schenley Park in Pittsburgh, Pa. on Saturday, Nov. 2.
In the first two of 21 Atlantic 10 titles, the Spiders will look to improve on last year's finish. In the inaugural race for Richmond, the women took a third place finish, while the men placed eighth.
The 14th running of the women's cross country championship will begin at 10:00 a.m. La Salle won its first-ever Atlantic 10 women's cross country title last season with 55 points, 10 better than runner-up Rhode Island. Richmond pack leader senior Ruth Chege (Brooklyn, N.Y.) garnered All-Conference with her 18:30 seventh place finish last year. Joining Richmond in the Championship race are Dayton, Duquesne, Fordham, George Washington, La Salle, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, St. Bonaventure, Saint Joseph's, and Xavier. The race is 5,000 meters.
The 25th annual men's cross country championship will follow the women's race at 10:40 a.m. on Schenley Park's 8,000-meter course. Last season, La Salle won its second title in three years with a 36-point victory over second place Saint Joseph's. Richmond will compete against Dayton, Duquesne, Fordham, George Washington, La Salle, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, St. Bonaventure, Saint Joseph's, and Xavier.
The Atlantic 10 Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships are the first two of 21 championships to be held this year - six of which will take place in the fall. From Nov. 8-9 the Atlantic 10 Field Hockey Championship will take place. The weekend of Nov. 8-10 will feature the women's soccer championship; the men's soccer championship will be held Nov. 15-17; and the women's volleyball championship will take place Nov. 22-23.
