Richmond, Va. -- UMass took advantage of five Richmond turnovers and amassed 478 yards of total offense to secure a 34-13 win against the Spiders at UR Stadium.
The Spiders continually moved the ball on offense but were hindered by fumbles deep in UMass territory. In the first half, Richmond fumbled at the goal line and at the Minuteman 14-yard-line. Two second-half fumbles resulted in UMass touchdowns.
Quarterback Jeff Krohn connected with Adrian Zullo for two scores and R.J. Cobbs ran in two more in the victory. Krohn finished the day 14-of-28 for 236 yards, while Zullo finished with five catches for 83 yards. Raunny Rosario (17-131 yards) and Cobbs (17-112 yards) led a punishing ground game that gained 242 total yards.
The Spiders' offense was led by sophomore fullback Lee Williams who gained a career-high 93 yards on eight carries. His 47-yard burst through the middle accounted for his career-long rush.
Junior wide receiver Boyd Ouden made an outstanding leaping catch and reach across the goal line that tied the game 7-7 with 1:56 to play in the first half. The Minutemen used the rest of the clock for a 37-yard field goal that gained momentum heading into the break.
The Spiders fumbled the opening kickoff of the third quarter and the Minutemen were on their way. UMass outgained Richmond 239-65 in a 24-point second half.
Late in the fourth quarter, redshirt freshman Stacy Tutt scored the Spiders' first points in the second half this season with a two-yard run. It was his first collegiate rushing touchdown.
