RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Redshirt freshman quarterback Stacy Tutt passed for a season-high 171 yards, including a 68-yard touchdown to junior Boyd Ouden, and ran for 77 more yards, but it wasn't enough as the Spiders (3-5 Atlantic 10, 3-7) fell to Atlantic 10-leading Maine (6-2, 9-2), 21-14, Saturday at UR Stadium.
Maine starting quarterback Jake Eaton threw for one touchdown and ran for another before being injured and leaving the game in the second quarter.
Eaton was 10-of-13, including a 7-yard touchdown pass to Kevin McMahan, on the Black Bears' first possession. He ran 18 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter.
Maine started its next possession from its 49 after recovering an onside kick. Eaton injured his left leg on the first play when he was hit while throwing a pass that was intercepted by Deashawn Doddard.
The Spiders closed to 14-7 on Stacy Tutt 68-yard pass to Boyd Ouden, but Maine answered with an eight-play, 82-yard drive capped by Chris Legree's 38-yard touchdown pass to McMahan.
Richmond's Kenny Dantzler scored on a 3-yard run in the third quarter, and the Spiders missed a chance to pull even when Tutt was stopped by Brandon McGowand and Robb Kierstead on fourth-and-goal at the 1 late in the period.
Maine's Marcus Williams rushed for 124 yards, and McMahan caught five passes for 125 yards.
Tutt was 12-of-25 for 171 yards and two interceptions, and Ouden caught
seven passes for 145 yards.
The contest marked the final home game for Richmond, which closes its season next Saturday at William & Mary in the 112th meeting between the two rivals.
