PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Senior Ruth Chege (Brooklyn, N.Y) led the University of Richmond's women's cross country team to a second place finish at the Atlantic 10 Championships. The men's team finished eighth in the 11 team pack.
Chege finished the course in 18:06 for a seventh place finish. The top ten finish earned the senior Spider A-10 All Conference honors. Teammate junior Lyndesy Webber (Sayville, N.Y.), along with seniors Sarah Taylor (Orono, Maine), Katie Sloan (Severna Park, Md.), Sherry Sikora (Succasunna, N.J.), and Anne Rettig (Charlottesville, Va.), swept the 14th through 18th spots. Finishing out the points for Richmond, freshman Nicole Kurtain (Hamilton, N.J.) crossed the line for 22nd in 18:55.
On the men's side, junior Jon Lauder (Oakton, Va.) led the Spider charge with a 17th place finish. Complimenting Lauer's efforts, senior Matt Hannay (Princeton, N.J.) ran to a 22nd placing in 26:19.
Spiders cross country returns to the course next weekend, Saturday, November 9 at the University of Virginia CC Invitational.
