Hofstra Defeats Richmond 26-16

Hempstead, N.Y. -- Richmond surged for 13 points and 201 yards of offense in the fourth quarter but its rally fell short in a 26-16 Atlantic 10 loss at Hofstra.
Trailing 20-3 at halftime, the Spiders (3-6, 3-4 A-10) outscored the Pride (4-6, 3-5 A-10) 13-6 and outgained them 307-123 in the second half.
David Edwards sliced his way into the endzone on a seven-yard run, his first rushing touchdown of the season, at the 7:04 mark of the fourth quarter to bring the visitors within 23-10.
After a Chris Onorato 42-yard field goal, his fourth of the game, extended the lead to 16 points with 2:11 to play, Richmond drove 76 yards on six plays to close within seven points (26-16). D'Arcy Wills spun his way 32 yards and dove across the line for the touchdown. The senior finished the game with a team-high 85 yards on 13 carries.
The Spiders recovered the onside kick and drove down to the Hofstra one yard line but could not score as time expired.
Hofstra built its lead in a dominating first half. Trevor Dimmie, who finished the game with 89 yards, scored the game's first touchdown at 8:19. After Doug Kirchner got Richmond on the board with a 38-yard field goal, Onorato matched with 21 seconds remaining in the first quarter.
After another Onorato field goal, Hofstra's Ryan Cosentino connected with Ricky Bryant on a 71-yard touchdown pass with only 30 seconds remaining in the first half to effectively seal the win.
Safety Deashawn Goddard recorded a career- and game-high 15 tackles. He made 1.5 tackles for loss, including a three-yard sack. The Spiders lost one fumble, while the Pride did not turn the ball over.
