Two Football Seniors Earn All-State Honors

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, VA. - Senior safety Ramon Richeson and senior linebacker Mark Thompson both earned 2002 VaSID All-State honors in a vote taken by sports information directors from the Commonwealth.
Both Richeson and Thompson also earned First Team All-Atlantic 10 honors in a vote taken by the league's coaches.
The Spiders' second-leading tackler, Richeson made 101 stops and tied for the A-10 lead with five interceptions. The Williamsburg, Va. native, made a career-high 23 tackles against Delaware (Sept. 7), and made two interceptions against James Madison (Oct. 19) and at Rhode Island (Oct. 26).
Thompson led the Spiders and ranked fourth in the Atlantic 10 with 115 tackles. His total is the highest by a Richmond player since Bryan Leibrand made 129 stops in 1995. The Fayetteville, N.C. native also recorded 13 tackles for loss and tied for the conference lead with five fumbles recovered.
Virginia quarterback Matt Schaub earned Virginia State Player of the Year while his coach, Al Groh, was selected Coach of the Year.
