Women's Swimming Sinks Navy, 170.5-128.5

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The University of Richmond women's swimming team improved its record to 11-2 this season as it defeated Navy Saturday afternoon, 170.5-128.5. The Spiders won eight of 12 individual swimming events as they were led by freshman Mary Adams (Williamsburg, Va.) and junior Elizabeth Cook (Rockville, Va.).
Adams won all three individual events she swam, winning the 200 butterfly (2:07.95), 200 breaststroke (2:23.34) and 200 IM (2:07.22). She holds the top Atlantic 10 time this season in all of these events, and the school record in the 200 breaststroke and 200 IM. The freshman also swam on the victorious 200 medley relay team (1:50.13) with seniors Kristin Cavanah (North Palm Beach, Fla.) and Kristin Newkirk (Marietta, Ga.), and sophomore Maureen Sabri (Chambersburg, Pa.).
Cook took first place in the 200 freestyle (1:55.60) and 200 backstroke (2:08.66) while also swimming on the winning 200 freestyle relay team, along with Newkirk, Sabri and sophomore Casey Dluhos (Savannah, Ga.), that recorded an Atlantic 10 season best time of 1:38.57.
Junior diver Katie Shipe (Mendon, N.Y.) set a school record in the one-meter diving competition as she posted a point total of 289.13, second best in the Atlantic 10 this year. She also participated in the three-meter diving attempt, finishing second with 250.20 points.
Rounding out the first place finishers for Richmond were Dluhos, who won the 100 freestyle (53.35), Newkirk in the 100 butterfly (58.76), and freshman Leslie Moatz (Bechtelsville, Pa.) who was victorious in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.45).
Richmond closes out its regular season at 11-2 and next travels to the Atlantic 10 Championships which takes place February 21-23 in Buffalo, N.Y.
