Purcell Earns A-10 Player of the Week Honors

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. --- University of Richmond sophomore attacker Polly Purcell (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) earned the Atlantic 10 Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week honor for the week ending March 24. Purcell recorded nine goals and ten assists this past week as the Spiders posted a 3-0 record.
The Ellicott City, Md. native netted three goals and three assists in Richmond's inaugural Atlantic 10 contest, an 18-5 win over George Washington on March 19. Two days later, she netted three goals and collected a season-high five assists in Richmond's 11-4 win over Davidson. The sensational week continued for the superb sophomore on Sunday as she again notched three goals and assisted on two more in a 14-6 victory over California.
Purcell is the only Richmond player to have scored in every contest this season and leads the team with 33 points. She has recorded 17 goals and 16 assists in Richmond's eight games. She is on pace to break the program record for assists in a season (22-1996).
Richmond at 6-2 is off to its best start in school history. The Spiders travel to #16 Old Dominion on Tuesday, March 26. Game time is at 4:00 at Foreman Field in Norfolk, Va.
