
Women's Tennis Crushes Duquesne, 7-0

HILTON HEAD, S.C. - The University of Richmond women's tennis team shut-out Atlantic 10 opponent Duquesne Thursday afternoon, 7-0, in Hilton Head, S.C. The Spiders dropped only one set on the afternoon as the team completed a perfect 4-0 spring trip.
In singles competition, the Spiders won five of six matches in straight sets and did not yield more than two points to their opponent in any set. At the top of the line-up, sophomore Jeannette Cluskey (Minneapolis, Minn./Edina) had no problems at the No. 1 spot, winning 6-1, 6-1, while junior Vanessa Bagnato (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset) cruised in No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-1. Junior Casey Cohen (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./The Bolles School), freshman Courtney Klein (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville East), and sophomore Patty Devlin (York, Pa./York Suburban) also breezed to victories at the No.s 4, 5, and 6 positions, respectively. Freshman Lindsay Cox (Finchampstead, Workingham Berks, UK/Edgbarrow) took the point in No. 3 singles when her opponent retired. For the third time this spring, Richmond swept all three doubles matches to earn the doubles point.
The victory improves Richmond to 6-5 (2-0 A-10) as the Spiders have now won four consecutive matches. The team returns to action Friday, March 15 as it hosts Central Florida at 2:00 p.m. at the UR Tennis Complex.
