Four Lacrosse Players Earn All-Atlantic 10

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The University of Richmond placed four lacrosse players on the All-Atlantic 10 team, including junior Kristy Gallagher who earned Co-Defensive Player of the Year, as voted by the league's coaches. Joining Gallagher on the All-Atlantic 10 team are senior Carrie Aitken, junior Katie Dolan and sophomore Polly Purcell.
Gallagher helped the Spider defense to a 9.25 goals against average, second best in the conference. The Chatsworth, N.J. native caused 18 turnovers and gathered 30 ground balls. Also a threat on offense, Gallagher tallied 26 goals and three assists for 29 points, fourth most on the Spider squad.
A native of Paxton, Mass., Aitken broke Richmond's all-time record for career goals (135) and goals in a season (50). Her record-breaking goal count ranks second in the Atlantic 10 this season and eighth in the nation. Aitken started all 16 matches at attack and ranked fourth in the conference with 59 points.
Dolan started all 16 games and tallied 25 goals and eight assists in the midfield. The Towson, Md. native, notched a team-high 50 ground balls and caused 22 turnovers. Dolan also led the team with 36 draw controls.
Playing her first season for the Spiders, Purcell led the team and ranked third in the A-10 with 65 points. She led the squad with 28 assists - eighth in the nation -- and ranked second with 37 goals. Starting all 16 matches, she posted 42 ground balls and caused 15 turnovers.
The Spiders (11-5, 6-1) recorded the most wins in program history and are the second seed in this weekend's Atlantic 10 Tournament. Richmond plays No. 3 seed Massachusetts in the semi-final round at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 3 in Pittsburgh, Pa. The championship game will be played at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 4.
