Purcell Earns All-American Honors

Sophomore Polly Purcell was recently named to the Warrior/Inside Lacrosse All-American second team. The Ellicott City, Md. native enjoyed a successful first season with the Spiders after transfering from Boston University, helping to lead Richmond to a 12-6 record and a 6-1 Atlantic 10 mark.
Purcell was third in the A-10 in points and fourth in goals (39) this past season. Her 1.67 assists per game were 10th best in the NCAA. Purcell's 30 assists established a new single season record.
In addition to the All-American honor, Purcell was also selected a Virginia Sports Information (VaSID) All-State selection. Joining her on the VaSID team were teammates Carrie Aitken and Kristy Gallagher. Aitken, a first-team All Atlantic 10 selection led the team with 51 goals this season and became the all-time Richmond leader in goals scored in a career with 136. Gallagher, named the A-10 Defensive Player of the Year, registered 28 goals while recording 30 ground balls and 19 caused turnovers.
