Former University of Richmond star Shawn Barber and his Philadelphia Eagles teammates have advanced the NFC Championship game, thanks in large part to the speedy linebacker's contributions.
Barber's 119 tackles rank second on one of the league's toughest defenses. His 69 solo stops and five tackles for loss also place him second on the team.
A Richmond, Va. native, Barber had his hands on three turnovers against Tennessee, a participant in the AFC Championship game, when the Eagles fell to the Titans in the season opener. He made one interception and recovered two fumbles. The 6-2, 237-pound, five-year veteran, returned his other interception this season for an 80-yard touchdown against Dallas.
The Eagles face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 19, for a chance to go to Super Bowl XXXVII in San Diego, Calif. Barber equaled a season high with 11 tackles against the Buccaneers in the regular-season meeting. He also made 11 stops against Chicago.
