UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va.-The Atlantic 10's coaches released their predictions for the 2003-04 winter season in men's and women's swimming and diving, and indoor track and field. The University of Richmond only competes in three of these events and is honored to claim the top position in two of them, women's swimming and diving and indoor track and field.
The women's swimming and diving team under head coach Matt Kredich returns this season as the Atlantic 10 Champions. Last year the squad won 13 of 20 total events and gained a commanding 785 points, 233.5 more than second place, in the three-day conference championship. In addition to its 13 event titles, the Spiders broke eight conference records and five program marks. Junior Mary Adams (Williamsburg, Va.) and sophomore Brooke Boncher (West Newbury, Mass.) both broke three A-10 marks, while the 200-yard freestyle and 400-yard medley relay teams, including Adams and Boncher, also established new records.
The women's indoor track and field team is ready to defend their first-ever conference title this season. The women dramatically won the championship after defeating Rhode Island in the final relay race. The top seniors returning for head coach Lori Taylor are runner Ruth Chege (Mohnton, Pa.) and jumper Julee Wilson (Chester Springs, Pa.).
The men's indoor track and field team is led by head coach Steve Taylor. After last season's sixth place finish in the Atlantic 10 conference finals, this year's team is hoping to improve on last year's performances.
