UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. -- Three University of Richmond student-athletes received weekly Atlantic 10 honors for their accomplishments last week, as released by the conference today. Senior Mike Nwaneri from the men's soccer team was named Co-Player of the Week, while freshman Brooke Binswanger from women's soccer was deemed Rookie of the Week. Junior Laura Hur received field hockey's Player of the Week accolade.
Hur (Chevy Chase, Md.) tallied three goals and two assists this weekend to help the Spiders defeat two conference opponents and claim the top spot in the Atlantic 10. The midfielder scored Richmond's first goal of the game on Friday in their 2-1 overtime victory against Temple. On Sunday, she led the Spiders with two goals and two assists in their 6-0 shutout against Saint Joseph's. For the second consecutive year, Richmond has compiled a perfect 6-0 record in regular season conference action.
This is the second Rookie of the Week honor for Binswanger (Memphis, Tenn.), who scored goals, including the game-winner against Temple, in both A-10 matches this past weekend. She has tallied six goals in nine conference games, tying her for the top spot in the league. She ranks second in the conference in shots and her consistent play has propelled the Spiders to their first appearance atop the regular season A-10 standings this year.
Nwaneri (Maplewood, N.J.) tallied eight saves to post a 1-0 shutout victory over first-place Temple on Oct. 24, snapping Temple's five-game win streak. He has allowed only one goal in the last 360:00 minutes registering a 0.81 GAA on the season and has a career-tying six shutouts on the season. His 85 saves this season top the South Atlantic Region. This the second time Nwaneri has received this honor this season.
