Five Richmond Student Athletes Honored By Atlantic 10

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va.-Five University of Richmond student-athletes received Atlantic 10 accolades, as announced by the conference today. Richmond's winners for Player/Performer of the Week are seniors Edda Gardarsdottir from women's soccer, Lyndsey Webber from women's cross country and Mike Nwaneri from men's soccer. Freshmen John Ciccarelli and Amanda Russell received Rookie of the Week honors.
As Co-Player of the Week, Edda Gardarsdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland) scored two goals, including the game-winner, in a 3-0 defeat of Rhode Island. She also recorded an assist, on the game winning goal, in a 2-1 double-overtime win against Massachusetts. She tallied another assist in the 2-1 loss to #5 Virginia. The senior leads the team with seven points this season.
Performer of the Week accomplishments went to Lyndsey Webber (Sayville, NY), who finished first overall (18:18.45) to lead the women's cross country team to the La Salle Invitational Title. She finished almost 12 seconds before the second place runner, teammate Amanda Russell, crossed the line. This is her third career Performer of the Week honor and second this season.
Men's soccer's Mike Nwaneri (Maplewood, N.J.) recorded two shutouts this weekend as the Spiders posted two 0-0 ties in conference action, deeming him Co-Player of the Week The shutouts were Nwaneri's second and third of the season. He recorded five saves versus Massachusetts and four against Rhode Island. He currently has nine career shutouts and a 0.92 GAA.
John Ciccarelli (Southbury, CT) gained Rookie of the Week honors after finishing in 25:34.02 to place second at the La Salle Invitational on Saturday. The men's team placed fifth in the meet. This is the second time he has earned this honor this season.
Also receiving Rookie of the Week, with a 18:30.33 second-place finish is Amanda Russell (North Bay, Ontario, Canada). This is the third time she has received this honor this fall and the second consecutive week.
