Field Hockey Falls to Cal-Berkeley in NCAA Play-In Game

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Despite an early second half goal by Allie Howard (Lancaster, Pa.) to knot the game at 1-1, the University of Richmond field hockey team fell to Cal-Berkeley, 2-1, in the NCAA Play-In game this afternoon at Crenshaw Field.
The Golden Bears (13-3) got on the board first, at 16:18, when junior Maggie Grimes got a shot and the goal after Spider goalie Michelle Swartz (Severna Park, Md.) deflected Samantha Gallop's shot.
In the second half, Richmond (18-4) responded when Howard scored off a penalty corner with assists from junior Laura Hur (Chevy Chase, Md.) and senior Lydia Decembrino (Hummelstown, Pa.) at 45:46. With just under five minutes remaining, Cal-Berkeley grabbed the 2-1 lead when senior Nora Feddersen scored off a penalty corner with assists credited to Julie Gipner and Jenna Long.
The Spiders recorded 18 shots to the Bears' six and earned more penalty corners, 11-3.
