UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The University of Richmond field hockey team earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Championship series, as announced by the committee this evening. A rematch of last year's NCAA first round is set as the #10 Spiders (18-4) will face #8 Old Dominion (13-9) in Durham, N.C. on Saturday, November 15.
The Lady Monarchs hold a 30-8-1 advantage over the Spiders in the all-time series, including the 5-1 victory in the first round of the NCAA championships last season. Richmond posts a 1-1 record this season against fellow NCAA qualifying teams, including a 2-1(2OT) win over American and a 3-2 loss against Duke.
The NCAA championship bracket consists of 16 teams, broken down into four groups of four. Richmond meets ODU in the first round, while host Duke (17-3) takes on American (16-3) in the other first round match-up. The winners will meet in the second round for the chance to advance to the Field Hockey Final Four hosted by the University of Massachusetts November 21-23.
